As stated above, we aren't a huge corporation with staffs of engineers that can maintain this project perpetually. Since I have a full-time job on top of this, the amount of dev time and effort I can invest in LubeLogger is dependent on how much free time / energy I have left after my employment obligations. Making it open source allows people to freely fork, contribute, and improve the app as they please.

LubeLogger does not yet pay the bills, and one of the questions we frequently get is if we are planning to fully commercialize the software in the future by switching to either an open-core model or become a closed-source application. The answer to that is, we are not planning to.

### Commercial Licensing

LubeLogger employs a dual-licensing model depending if the user is a commercial entity or if they're using LubeLogger for personal uses. Commercial entities are legally required to maintain a Patreon subscription of $2.99/month in order to be compliant with our licensing terms. The commercial licensing terms are only valid as long as Hargata Softworks is still listed as the maintainer of LubeLogger, and is subject to change in the event where the maintainer obligations are transferred to another user or organization.

The software is identical regardless of whether the user is a paying commercial user or a personal user. We believe this honor-system based model is the best way forward to prevent over-catering to commercial users. It is paramount that we deliver software that will greatly benefit all users and not just paying ones.
